A new street has appeared on the Tyumen city map in the Zarechnaya part, named after people who stand daily and hourly to protect the safety of their fellow countrymen. The street is in the initial stage of construction.
The heroes are firefighters and rescuers of the Tyumen region who died in the line of duty: 29 firefighters who remained forever behind the wall of fire. After all, it is in their honor and in honor of all those who devoted themselves to fighting the elements, those on whose professionalism and efficiency we all hope today, that this street is named.
On December 27, 2023, on the Day of the Rescuer of the Russian Federation, the opening ceremony of the first part of the new boulevard took place.
Thanks to the joint work of the Tyumen city administration and the veteran organization of firefighters and rescuers, the idea was brought to life. In the first part of the boulevard there are architectural compositions representing firefighters fearlessly walking into the fire, rescuers made of bronze, sitting on a bench, with a kind smile on their face.
One of the most striking characters that have been placed here is the figure of the firefighter cat Semyon, who has become popular among social media users due to his dedication to firefighting. For several years, the quadruped "tabby" lived in the 135th fire and rescue unit of the Tyumen region. The cat went daily to the morning divorces of the rotating fire guards, sitting in his marked square. He helped protect the fire department from rodents and cheer up the firefighters. Soon Semyon had his own personal rescue uniform, which set him apart from other quadruped animals and made him a favorite of the public. The fireman’s cat died in April 2023.
In 1821, a real fire brigade was set up in Tyumen. It was led by Fire Major Dmitriev. The team had three filling machines, 16 horses and 6 attendants, from among the soldiers of the Tyumen disabled team. The authorities spent 1,000 rubles a year on its maintenance.
Merchant Tyumen strengthened its fire-fighting lines. Back in 1910, the city had an economic and fire-fighting water supply system: 24 kilometers of pipes in 180 house branches were regularly supplied with water. 16 water intake booths and 156 hydrants were kept in working order. The number of firefighters varied depending on the season: 30 in winter and 40 in summer. Merchants spared no expense on fire safety. It was considered good form to join a volunteer fire department and make a generous contribution to the maintenance of their own volunteer unit. The merchants maintained 12 full-time firefighters, 12 horses, 2 engine and 2 barrel trains. But during the difficult years, taking their purse, the members of the voluntary society fled with Kolchak. The new authorities began to take care of fire safety.
In 1920, a special fire department of the provincial department was created, and in 1923, the municipal municipal department. The Tyumen District Fire Department was established by the decree of the Presidium of the District Executive Committee dated March 14, 1924.
In 1919, Nikolai Fyodorovich Kopytov took over the Tyumen fire department, which was devastated by the revolution, and restored it bit by bit. His report, kept in the state archive of the Tyumen region, says: "From 1919 to 1921, there were three fire brigades in Tyumen, which were subordinate to the Tyumen Provincial Municipal Department. The staff of the fire brigade consists of a fire chief, his assistant, pipe handlers, pipe handlers, grooms, saddlers, axemen, tenderers. A total of 61 people work in three parts. The territory of the city is 1,570 hectares, the city is divided into 484 blocks. There are 153 streets in total, the road length is 105 kilometers, of which 10.8 kilometers are paved. The equipment includes a van, a pipe passage, barrels, rulers, hooks. The entire combat staff of the Tyumen Fire Brigade in 1921 was 20 men and 44 horses."
In 1932, by a decree of the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR dated March 23, fire protection was transferred to the OGPU (NKVD). A city fire department is being created in Tyumen. The numerical strength of the city’s fire service in 1937 was 126 people. There were 8 fire trucks, 40 wagons, 56 manual and 7 steam pumps in service.
After the transformation of the Tyumen District of the Omsk Region into an independent territorial unit in August 1944, the fire protection department was established under the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Since April 1966, a paramilitary fire protection unit has been established in the region to protect oil and gas industry facilities from fire. In 1972, the fire extinguishing headquarters of the Department of Internal Affairs was established. In the 70s and 80s, significant structural and qualitative changes took place in the fire department. There are organized branches of the military educational center, a training center, a fire extinguishing service, a CPPS, a fire testing laboratory, and a fire technical exhibition…
Since January 2002, the Russian Fire Department has been under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Civil Defense and Emergency Situations of Russia.
